Safety, consent and what not to publish

Some detail helps a reader. Some detail puts a person or a place at risk.

  • Ask before you name anybody. Record that they agreed, and what they agreed to.
  • Never publish raw contact details. Offer an intro instead.
  • Do not publish anything that would put a fixer at risk with local authorities.
  • Do not pin a site that traffic would damage, or a home.
  • Border, checkpoint and permit workarounds: describe the official process, not the way around it.
If you are unsure whether something should be public, leave it out of the Brief and offer it through an intro request. That option exists for exactly this.
